Rescue FAQs

Happy Dogs Rescue is a small, all-volunteer rescue group. We are a licensed dog rescue with the State of Missouri and a federal non-profit 501(c)3 public charity. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome dogs of all breeds in the Greater Kansas City Area. All of our dogs are from the Kansas City areas of eastern Kansas and NW Missouri. We are a foster-based rescue, not a shelter. Our dogs can be seen at our adoption events and on the Internet.
We serve the Kansas City "metro" area only. We require a home visit/ fence check by one of our volunteers and are limited in range by our volunteer locations.

Additional adoption info

Adoption Requirements:
Fully Fenced Yard (exceptions may be made for some dogs with an approved plan for safe outdoor time)

No Children under Age 5- some exceptions will be made based on the dog's known history and temperament and the adopter's experience. This is for safety as the majority of our dogs are large-breed young adults with no known history with children.

Other Pets (dogs and cats) must be spayed/neutered and vaccinated

Kansas City "metro" area only

Adoption Process:
1. Adoption Application
2. Checks Made- home visit/fence check, vet and reference checks
3. Adoption Contract and Fee
Full approval usually takes 2-3 days as we make all checks.

Adoption Contract: Our adoption contract is intended to protect our dogs and ensure they are safe, well cared for and in a loving home for life. If for any reason you cannot keep your adopted dog, this contract requires the dog be returned to us and not given or surrendered to any other person, shelter or rescue organization. If the dog is taken to the vet within 5 business days of adoption (as recommended) and is found to have any health issue that we have missed or not made known to you, we will refund the adoption fee and either take the dog back or pay for the needed treatment.

Adoption Fees are 100-250 based on age, size, breed, needed medical care, etc. Each dog's fee will be listed at the end of its biography.

Donations can be made at our events, mailed to our P.O. box or made through the PayPal link on our main website.
