We have rescued dogs from death row. Meaning we save them from being euthanized at the kill shelters, and give them more time to find their forever homes. We specialize in medium to large dogs, but have some small dogs too....

Additional adoption info

Our adoption fee is $50/adult dog, or $80 for 2 dogs, as we have some that are very comfortable with each other, and would be happy to stay together. Puppies are $100 or $160 for 2. Horses are $200, $350 for 2. Other animals are on pet per pet basis. Our adoption process includes interview with the potential forever home, and an application. Adopting home will agree to wellness home check-ups, as it is very important that these precious souls find the right fit. About The Heart of Leo - Colorado Chapter

This rescue started almost 15 years ago as a horse rescue...when we realized how bad the over population issue was, and perfectly good dogs were being euthanized, we decided we needed to step in and try to help. We are a small organization, and the more fosters and permanent homes we can find, the more we will be able to save! Adopt don't buy!

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
