Rescue FAQs

American Maltese Association Rescue was formed in 1995 for the charitable purpose of rescuing homeless or soon to be homeless Maltese and Maltese mixes, including those found in animal shelters and those relinquished by their owners. Our organization continues today as a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit with an all volunteer staff and foster care providers. Every rescue Maltese is provided with necessary medical care including spay/neutering. All of our dogs reside in foster homes where they are socialized and treated as loving pets until adopted.
American Maltese Association Rescue is a national breed specific (Maltese) nonprofit rescue organization. All donations and adoption fees pay for the medical care provided to every rescue dog. Our available rescue dogs are located in areas where our foster care providers reside.

Additional adoption info

The first step in our adoption process is to submit an Application to Adopt which is available on our website at www.americanmalteserescue.org A telephone interview is conducted and references are checked. A home visit is performed prior to the adoption to determine a safe environment for a rescue Maltese. An appointment is scheduled for the interested family to meet the rescue dog. If all parties agree that the adoptive family and rescue dog is good match, then the adoption is finalized with the payment of the adoption fee. All medical records and shot records are provided to the adoptive family
