Additional adoption info

Please click on the pet you're interested in and read his/her profile and requirements prior to calling us for a phone consult. If the pet's profile states no children, a fenced yard, etc. these are requirements, not suggestions. All requirements will be verified during application screening and at the time of the required home visit. Please be patient when waiting for a call back as we're all volunteers. The number to call can be found in each pet's profile. Regrettably, we cannot do rescue business via text, facebook or email, so a volunteer who knows the dog in question will return your call at their earliest convenience. All of our dogs are fully and thoroughly evaluated in foster homes prior to being available for adoption. WOOF!

About Mutts of Motown

Mutts of Motown is a very small Detroit based rescue. Our goal is to save dogs and some cats who are in danger, abused, abandoned or neglected. Because we are so small and due to lack of funding and foster homes, we work with many 501 c-3 non profit groups who often take in many of our Detroit rescues. Sometimes we provide care, spays, neuters, straw, dog houses and even dog food to those who need it and cannot afford it, or refuse to provide it for their pets. Because of the great numbers of animals being killed in our shelters nationwide we urge you to fix your pets and urge your government officials to change laws about backyard and basement breeding as well as passing spay and neuter laws nationwide. We believe with these laws in place shelters wouldn't be needed in a few years. California has some of these laws in place now. We should follow this example and stop allowing our tax dollars to go towards the killing of unwanted animals.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
