Rescue FAQs

Minnesota GSP is committed to finding permanent loving homes for the shorthairs in our care. The dogs in our program will stay with us until such a home is secured. We do screen all potential adopters and are not about adopting dogs out quickly. We are a foster based program so all our dogs are living in a volunteers home while waiting for adoption. We believe this will give you a realistic idea of how they will act in a home. We will work with all dogs on basic house manners/commands and crate training if they are not already. All dogs in our care will also receive any vetting that is needed in addition to bringing them up to date on vaccinations, heart worm testing, and spaying/neutering. All dogs will also be temperament tested. We will not take or adopt out aggressive dogs. If you have any questions about the breed please review our breed information tab. If we can answer any further questions for you about our program please contact us.

Additional adoption info

We make it our goal to match the right home with the right dog, ensuring a lifetime together for the pet and the adopter. To ensure that this is acheived, we have a process that we follow. Our process may seem time consuming or unnecessary but we do this to because we have our dog's best interests and in mind. We strive to find the best homes possible for our dogs, as well as find the right dog for you and your lifestyle.

Please understand that our organization is completely run by unpaid volunteers, who dedicate their free time to help the dogs. We only do adoptions in areas where we have volunteers. If you are outside of this area we will refer you to your local GSP rescue.

Adoption Process:

1. Fill out the application under the forms tab.

2. We will do a veterinary check on your current or previous pets.

3. We will put you in contact with the person fostering the dog/dogs that you are interested in.

4. Visit/Meet with dog of interest.
