Rescue FAQs

Friends of Rescue is headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama with transport locations throughout the Great Lakes and New England. FOR is a volunteer-run, 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2009.

Our mission is to save adoptable dogs and cats from overcrowded Southern shelters where limited space, minimal funding, and high intake rates often lead to euthanasia.

We are not professional trainers or animal behaviorists—just dedicated individuals working together to give these animals a second chance. Every pet in our program lives in a loving foster home and receives age-appropriate veterinary care while awaiting adoption.

Our ultimate goal is to match each animal with a committed, compassionate individual or family who will provide a FORever home.
Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island, and New Jersey to name a few.

Adoption steps

  1. Submit Application
  2. Interview
We will get to know you and have you get to know the pet with a virtual meet & greet or photos & videos.
  3. Approve Application
  4. Sign Adoption Contract
  5. Pay Fee
  6. Take the Pet Home
Transport will be scheduled with one of our USDA certified partners.

Additional adoption info

We have many wonderful dogs and cats eagerly waiting for their FORever homes!

Our adoption fee includes comprehensive, age-appropriate veterinary care: spay/neuter, microchipping, vaccinations, heartworm and flea prevention, and any medical care needed.

Our transport fee covers a comprehensive veterinary exam to obtain a USDA Health Certificate, which is required for interstate travel, as well as the cost of safe, licensed transport to your area.
