Rescue FAQs

Tampa Bay House Rabbit Rescue Inc. ("TBHRR") is an all-volunteer-run, donation-funded, foster-home-based, no-kill, 501(c)(3) rescue. We strive to help domestic rabbits in the Tampa Bay Area of Florida as well as other rabbit rescues in Florida and throughout the USA, whenever possible.

TBHRR is committed to bettering the lives of house rabbits through education. We offer free education and are always willing to give advice according to the House Rabbit Society's guidelines, plus our years of personal experience with animal rescues and the house rabbits we have owned and/or fostered.
Primarily based in the Tampa Bay area, Florida, we also offer transport help and will occasionally do out-of-state adoptions for special cases.

Adoption steps

  1. Submit Application
    1. Potential adopters must first submit a foster application and foster the rabbit(s) for at least a month before they can adopt.
  2. Interview
    1. You are contacted via email or telephone to discuss your Foster Application with one of our Adoption Coordinators.
  3. Approve Application
    1. After approval, you must foster the rabbit(s) for at least 3-4 weeks to ensure a suitable fit for the rabbit(s) and your family.
  4. Home Check
    1. We bring the rabbit(s) to your home and provide a free Bunny Basics presentation as well as execute a Foster Contract.
  5. Sign Adoption Contract
    1. If your family wishes to execute a formal Adoption Contract, this is completed after the fostering period is satisfied.
  6. Pay Fee
    1. At the time of formal Adoption, the adoption fee for a single rabbit is $75 and the adoption fee for a bonded pair of rabbits is $110.

Additional adoption info

Our Adoption Process is a Foster-to-Adopt Program wherein you must complete a Foster Application, be interviewed and home-checked by one of our Directors, and be approved via an executed Foster Contract in order to foster your chosen rabbit(s) for a minimum of 3-4 weeks to ensure suitability for the rabbit(s) and your family before formalizing an adoption via an Adoption Contract and paying an adoption fee. Fostering is free, we provide all equipment and supplies necessary except fresh greens/veggies and love. Education according to the House Rabbit Society's guidelines is free. We provide you with a comprehensive Bunny Basics presentation and are available via email, Facebook private message, and your Adoption Coordinator's personal telephone number.
