Rescue FAQs

Indigo Rescue is a volunteer network of foster families focused on finding good matches to ensure life long adoptions. Indigo Rescue partners with county shelters to rescue and rehab animals who have run out of time in the shelter environment. Adoptions are made only to homes within a 50 mile radius of Portland, OR.

Additional adoption info

We are not first come first served organization. Instead, we take applications and select the most compatible home for the particular pet. Our goal is that each adoption is permanent, and accomplishing that requires making a good match between the pet and its new family.

The adoption process is:

1. Application - An application initiates the process. You will be asked about your family, home, and work situation.
2. Phone Conversation - You will be contacted to discuss in more depth your family and home situation to better assess which pet might be best for your situation.
3. Meet and Greet - We'll arrange a time for you and your family (kids and pets) to meet with the adoptable pet and perhaps even the foster family. This will give you a chance to interact with the pet and help us assess fit. After we feel we have made a good match we will provide a list of items the family should have in place prior to our delivering the pet. These are all necessary tools to assure the safety of the pet and success of the adopter.
4. Adoption Fee - $150 for larger adult dogs, $250 for small adult dogs and puppies of any size.
5. Delivery, and Ongoing Support - We deliver all of our adoptable pets to their new home. Indigo maintains a lifetime return policy on all of our adoptions. This policy is not in place to make it easy to “get rid” of a pet when it’s inconvenient, but rather, to assure we have an opportunity to intervene in a crisis and safely rehome the pet. We are also available for consultation over the lifetime of all of our adoptive pets and can often provide valuable coaching on training, behavior and veterinary needs.
