Shelter FAQs

Peaceable Kingdom is a no-kill shelter. We do not euthanize animals except in cases of unacceptable aggression or incurable illness. Our mission is:

To provide care, protection, and assistance to animals who are mistreated, injured, abandoned, or otherwise in need.

To minimize animal overpopulation through low-cost spay/neuter clinics.

To create community awareness and gain support of animal needs through educational efforts.
We are located in Whitehall, Pa. We adopt out to surrounding cities of the Lehigh Valley, as well as other parts of Pennsylvania. We also do out of state adoptions, typically states that are close by, as long as the adopter is willing to drive to the shelter for the adoption process.

FOR DOGS ...Potential adopters will need to complete the Canine Application which requires landlord reference or proof of home ownership along with vet reference and a non family personal reference. Some instances may require a home inspection. We require a meet and greet with all household members and resident dogs present at the shelter. The adoption fees are $175 to $450 ($175 for large senior dogs, $200 for small senior dogs, $350 for adults, and $450 for puppies under 1 year).

FOR KITTENS ...Potential adopters will need to complete a Kitten Application and provide proof of vaccinations and spay/neuter for other animals living in the home. Renter must also provide a copy of their rental agreement showing pet allowance. The adoption fee is $140 for a DSH kitten, $170 for a DLH, specialty and purebred kittens. All kittens are flea treated, wormed, leukemia tested, and are up to date on shots as appropriate for their age. Adopter is responsible for remaining vaccines. Spay/neuter and microchipping is included in the adoption fee and will be done by the shelter when the kitten reaches the appropriate age.
