Rescue FAQs

One Dog at a Time is a humane rescue group dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals. We help dogs and other animals in need, assisting and providing resources to law enforcement, educating the general public about health and welfare issues in order to promote responsible pet ownership, and helping owners maintain their responsibility with assistance when necessary. One Dog at a Time will operate within the legal guidelines of all laws and work in conjunction with all law enforcement and humane enforcement personnel. One Dog at a Time depends on educated, outgoing and active volunteers who will also adhere to the legalities of the group and with a combined group effort we will be able to save animals and place them in forever loving homes. Together, we can make a difference…. One Dog at a Time.
One Dog at a Time has built a team of concerned and caring animal lovers, not vigilantes. Our mission is to conduct animal welfare checks, investigate suspected abuse and neglect, assess situations and formulate plans of action based on individual circumstances. ALL ODAAT team members will operate within the legal guidelines of Pennsylvania Law and in conjunction with all law enforcement and humane enforcement personnel. Our goal is to save animals that would go unnoticed without us. All reports are kept confidential unless stated otherwise. Our members are very important to us. ODAAT has, in a very short time, built relationships with an absolutely amazing group of intelligent professionals wanting to assist animals in need. We have Humane Officers (and those aspiring to be), Dog Wardens, Police, both active and retired, a multitude of other rescues in and out of the State of Pennsylvania. One Dog at a Time depends on educated, outgoing, active volunteers who will adhere to the rules and ideals of the group.

Additional adoption info

The goal of ODAAT is to place our companion animals in lifetime, loving homes. Every home and every companion animal has it 's own unique personality and requirements. We place our animals in the supportive and loving environment of home foster care. While there, we gain knowledge about their personality, training skills, likes and dislikes.

To assist us with matching the correct companion animal with the most appropriate and compatible home, please fill out our adoption application questions as completely and correctly as possible and any other information you think would be helpful. The application will be followed-up by an ODAAT Adoption Coordinator, with a phone interview and then a home check.

Adoption contract and post-adoption follow-up checks are required as a condition of adoption. Some companion animals get multiple applicants or are not appropriate matches, so not all adoptions will be approved. Not all applicants will receive a yes or no response due to limited staff. We reserve the right to refuse any adoption without justification.
Our Adoption Costs vary but below is a guideline:
Dogs: $400-$300
Puppies:$450
Cats: $75
Kittens: $100

Why the high cost? Can't I adopt an animal for less? No.. and here's why: Our animals come to you fully vetted. It costs us less for medical care than you do to non-profit discount. So if you adopt an animal for less it will cost you more later. Spay & Neutering your animals, along with keeping up on shots prevents disease & illnesses.
