Shelter FAQs

HSLC is a non-profit organization, and we are the only shelter in the Lincoln County area. We are always accepting donations, and supplies. We are a small shelter and are working towards building a new, bigger facility to accommodate and house more animals and give them the care and attention they need. We have full time and part time staff who are dedicated to caring for and finding suitable homes for all our animals. We work with Foster homes, transfer facilities and run countless advertisements to get our pets out there. We take time to socialize our pets, and do some basic training. We have a wonderful group of volunteers who come every week, and we are always accepting new volunteers. We hold Off-Site Adoptions, and work with our community to advertise our shelter and hold fundraisers to help us reach our goal of a new facility. We recently opened a Resale Shop which also helps us financially support our shelter.
The Humane Society of Lincoln County serves all the towns in our County including: Hondo, Carrizozo, Capitan, Lincoln, Nogal, Mescalero, and we also work with neighboring cities such as: Roswell, Alamogordo, Las Cruces, El Paso, Albuquerque. We also do transfers to Colorado, Santa Fe, we even have adopted out pets as far as Massachusetts, and Dallas Texas.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption fees for Dogs is $80.00 and Cats are $75.00. All of our adopters fill out an application which they can do at our facility or they can do it online at our website. Once approved we enter all their information into our system. We also have a contract the adopter's will sign and will get a copy of for their records. All adoptions include spay/neuter, microchips, current vaccinations, free pet insurance for 30 days (with an email) and a small bag of food. The owners will receive a packet with all their pet's information, including vaccination records, and dates when the next vaccine is due.
