Adoption Process
Come to the shelter and meet the animal you are interested in. If you are interested in a dog, bring any other dogs you may have for a "meet and greet" session. Bring your family members. If you want to adopt the animal, fill out an application. Multiple applications on animals are accepted. If more than one person is interested in adopting an animal, the home that is judged to be the best fit for the animal will be selected--it is not "first come, first served."
The animals in our care often came to us because of abuse, neglect or abandonment. Sometimes they were surrendered by a person who couldn't care for them appropriately. These animals have a second chance at the shelter. They've already had a hard life, so we consider it important to place them into homes that will be safe, loving, and permanent!
Please note that you may not be able to take the animal home the same day you complete the adoption application. The process may take days for an animal with multiple applications or where home checks need to be scheduled. If we believe for any reason that the animal is not a good match for an applicant, we reserve the right to not approve the adoption.
Adopting an animal is a long-term commitment that should not be made hastily, so take your time in making the decision to adopt! Research the breed of the animal you are interested in--dogs in particular were bred for a function, so make sure you know what that is. Carefully consider the time, money, energy, and long-term commitment it takes to care for a four-legged family member. Think about where you will be one, five, ten years from now. Will the animal still fit into the picture?
