Rescue FAQs

Save Our Herders Outreach (SOHO) is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to herding breed and herding mixed dogs in need. We concentrate our rescue efforts in the Mid Atlantic and Southeast United States. Most of our volunteers and fosters live in those states and share their homes with their own Border collies, Australian Shepherds, Australian Cattle Dogs, Working Kelpies, Corgis and/or Shetland Sheepdogs. Our dogs come from several sources. Many come from high kill shelters where they were either found as strays or abandoned by their owners. Some were turned over to us by owners who could no longer care for them. Regardless of where they came from, our goal for every dog is the same - a forever home where they will be loved and considered a part of the family.
We are an active herding dog rescue. We serve most states in the American Southeast, Mid Atlantic, and South - VA, NC, SC, WV, KY, TN, GA, LA, NJ, MD, DE, and more. Please check out our website for recent dogs added.

Additional adoption info

We do require a vet reference, three personal references, and a home visit prior to adoption, and we require signature on a contract to adopt the dog. Your current pets must be up to date on vaccinations (though we accept titering records as well), and heartworm preventative.
