Mission Statement:
The Woodhaven and Trenton Animal Control Shelter strives to serve the citizens and animals of Our community through humane sheltering, adoptions, education, enforcement, and community involvement, to provide kind, loving, and respectful homes, strengthening the bonds between Our citizens and their companion animals.

We are a municipal animal shelter funded by the cities of Woodhaven and Trenton, Michigan.
We also have a 501C3 Non-profit group, FRIENDS OF THE WOODHAVEN AND TRENTON ANIMAL SHELTER, that helps with our funding.
We can accept animal surrenders only from the cities of Woodhaven and Trenton, Michigan residents.

Animal Control will accept an animal from an owner providing there is room at the shelter. The owner must be a resident of Woodhaven or Trenton and must provide a current city pet license for that animal. Surrender fee is $40 per animal. All paperwork (medical information, AKC papers, etc.) should be brought to the shelter at the time of surrender. The animal(s) must have a appointment to be surrender at the Animal Shelter.

Hours of surrender appointment are:

Monday- Friday
8:00 a.m. - 4:00pm.

We are closed on Saturday, Sunday and Holidays.

Adoption steps

  1. Visit the Facility and Find a Pet
    1. Open adoption hours are Monday thru Friday 8am to 4pm.
  2. Submit Application
    1. Adoption application may be filled out at the Animal Shelter or you can find it on line under the www.woodhavenmi.org.
  3. Approve Application
    1. You application will be reviewed by a staff member. This will take approximately 5 minutes. Once approved, you will go to the next step.
  4. Sign Adoption Contract
    1. A Adoption Agreement and/or Spay/Neuter Agreement will be required to be sign by the adopter. This will take approximately 10 minutes.
  5. Pay Fee
    1. The Animal Shelter ONLY takes Cash or Check for adoption fees. Adoption fees are $100 for dogs and cats. $25 for small animals
  6. Take the Pet Home
    1. Enjoy your new family member!!!

Additional adoption info

Completing the adoption application does not guarantee that you will be able to adopt that particular animal.

For all animals that are not altered at the time of adoption, a $50 deposit fee will be charged. The adopter will have 30 days to have the animal spayed or neutered. Once this is completed, the $50 deposit fee will be refunded.

Michigan State law requires all animals adopted from an animal shelter or rescue group to be spayed or neutered.
