Shelter FAQs

We are a county maintained animal shelter providing care for cats and dogs. We take in dogs from Rowan County and Fleming County, but all of our cats come from Rowan County only. Along with private adoptions, we work closely with local rescues to get our pets places in homes.

Adoption steps

  1. Visit the Facility and Find a Pet
  2. Meet the Pet
  3. Pay Fee
  4. Take the Pet Home

Additional adoption info

Our process is very simple. You come meet a pet that you like, if the pet does not have a stray hold, then they can be adopted, we cannot hold them for any reason. You will fill out a short form, pay the adoption fee with cash or check only, and we will schedule to take them to the vet for their rabies vaccines and spay/neuter within a week, after this is done, they can go home with you! All of our animals are required to have their rabies vaccines and to be spayed/neutered before leaving us to help decrease the pet population.
