Shelter FAQs

The Souris Valley Animal Shelter (SVAS) is a 501(c)3 North Dakota nonprofit corporation that shelters animals in the Northwest region of North Dakota, federal ID number 45-0345317. Since 1978, we have helped over 35,000 animals through adoptions, medical services, microchipping, and legal cases.

Our mission is to create a better world for pets and people by advocating for animals and driving positive change within our communities. Whether through our community engagement programs, providing emergency care in crises such as the 2011 North Dakota flood, and supporting local law enforcement in managing animal abuse or hoarding cases, our goal is to enhance the well-being of our community and make it a model of compassion and responsibility.

SVAS reserves the right to refuse adoption under certain circumstances.
