Hudson County Animal League

The Hudson County Animal League, incorporated in 1994, is a tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization and all donations are tax deductible. We are approved by the State of New Jersey Department of Health as an adoption agency.

HCAL is working with the City of Bayonne to establish a humane, compassionate animal haven in that municipality. The City will be leasing HCAL a piece of property on East 5th Street, and once the environmental/legal issues have been resolved, HCAL will construct a pre-fabricated facility on the site. While we have been fundraising for this project for the past several years, when the lease agreement is signed with the City, the League will begin a major shelter capital campaign.

While working towards establishing our shelter, HCAL strives to provide the following services:

- Rescue/foster abandoned animals
- Promote and subsidize spay/neuter services
- Adopt animals into permanent loving homes
- Provide information and referrals on responsible pet care
- Trap/neuter/release feral cats
- Assist with veterinary services for the indigent

Our voice mail phone line (201 200-1008) receives calls daily regarding adoption, information on pet care, medical and spay/neuter services, unwanted pets and strays, lost and found animals, and other animal-related concerns. The phone lines are staffed by League members.

The League has a low cost spay/neuter program that is accepted by veterinary clinics in Bayonne, Jersey City, Hoboken, Union City and North Bergen

HCAL is also a member of the Hudson County Animal Response Team (CART), working with representatives of the Red Cross and the Hudson County Office of Emergency Management on the establishment of a disaster plan for the county’s animals.
