Shelter FAQs

The Humane Society of Southwest Missouri is an independent, 501(c)3 non-profit organization incorporated in 1956 and licensed by the Missouri Department of Agriculture. Funding for the organization comes from private donations. We do not receive any funding from any government agencies. We are the largest No Kill shelter in Southwest Missouri. No Kill means we do not believe in euthanizing animals for space, and we are dedicated to finding a home for every animal that comes through our doors. We receive our animals from people giving up their pets for a variety of reasons, including changes in family situations and moving. Some of our animals have been strays rescued from the streets by a kind citizen. All of our animals are looking for permanent and loving forever homes!
We are located in Springfield, Missouri and serve the Greene County area.
