Shelter FAQs

Mission Statement: The Animal Control department controls the stray population of Floyd County by code enforcement, capture of strays, and education of citizens. We also strive to provide comfortable temporary shelter for those animals while continuously using resources to place unwanted animals by adoption or rescue. Our mission is to promote animal welfare through education, stressing owner responsibility. With the cooperation of local rescue agencies, we will endeavor to adopt all animals to good homes while keeping with state law, which requires rabies vaccinations and spay/neuter. As public servants we will strive to equitably enforce and educate the citizens of Rome/Floyd County as to the regulations relating to domestic animal care and treatment. Purpose Floyd County Animal Control Department is responsible for all animal control operations, including Field Operations; Shelter Management and Care, and the animal adoption/rescue program for Floyd County Animal Control. To provide quality customer service in all phases of animal control operations and quality care for all animals in Floyd County.
While we strive to adopt out all pets to good homes, this is a rural county with a low rate of spay/neuter. Vast numbers of pets are surrendered, or found lost, neglected, or abandoned. Space is limited; therefore, we urge everyone to come and adopt, rescue groups are welcome also. We service all of Floyd County Georgia, however individuals from outside the county are always welcome to come and adopt.
