Shelter FAQs

Halifax Humane Society, the 2012 National CLASSY Award winner for Animal Advocacy & Services, is a 501(c)(3) private nonprofit organization servicing the Greater Daytona Beach area in Volusia County, Florida since 1937. It exists to protect animals from cruel, neglectful, and exploitative treatment. Halifax Humane Society is an open-door animal shelter that offers services to any animal in need. As one of the largest humane societies in Florida, Halifax Humane Society provides a full array of humane programs that allow it to provide service to nearly 25,000 animals each year. Through generous donations of time and funds, the Halifax Humane Society provides shelter for lost and abandoned animals, delivers humane education to its citizens, creates a pet-friendly environment in its local community, and prevents overpopulation of animals by offering affordable spay/neuter opportunities.

Additional adoption info

Individuals or families interested in adopting an animal must complete a brief Meet Your Match assessment before entering the adoption areas. Interested adopters are strongly encouraged to spend time outside the kennel with their pet before adopting. After the office staff screens the application, a surgery date is scheduled for the animal to be spayed or neutered before it will be placed in its new home. If the animal has already been altered, it can usually go home the same day! Otherwise, a date and time is established for the adopters to pick-up their new family member. If a placement is felt to not be in the best interest of the animal, the adoption will be denied.
