Rescue FAQs

CARE was founded to decrease euthanasias in Oconee County, SC. We primarily aquire animals from the local animal control. Most of these pets would be euthanized if we did not take them. Once in our program, they are adopted out through us or transfered to another rescue/shelter where they are not at risk for euthanasia.
We work primarily with puppies and kittens as this is the age group most likely to be euthanized at our local animal control.
Our equine rescues are primarily neglect cases from animal control. We design feeding programs for them to gain weight back safely, provide hoof care, and treat any medical problems. Once healthy enough to adopt, we find them loving homes.
CARE is located in Seneca, SC. We have a physical location where some pets are housed as well as foster homes. We are happy to have adoptions to anywhere and have adopted many pets out of state.

Adoption steps

  1. Submit Application
Visit https://www.crossroadsanimalrescue.org/adoption-applications.html to fill out an application and we will call you to follow up.
  2. Approve Application
Before approving an application, we will request previous vet records on current and past pets.
  3. Meet the Pet
Once approved for adoption, you can come in and meet the pet.
  4. Sign Adoption Contract
  5. Pay Fee
Our adoption fees include spay/neuter, deworming, vet exam, up to date vaccines, microchipping, & heartworm or feline leukemia testing.
  6. Take the Pet Home
We are happy to adopt out-of-state (and even out of the country!) but transportation for the pet is the responsibility of the new pet owner.

Additional adoption info

To adopt a pet from CARE, contact us and give us the information for our adoption application. This can be via phone or by going to our website, downloading the adoption application, and filling it out and emailing it to us. Our email is crossroadsanimalrescuesc@gmail.com
Once we receive your application, we will contact your vet references and review the application to approve you. This can usually be done on the same day you apply. Sending in the application does not obligate you to adopt.
You may meet our onsite pets prior to filling out the application if you prefer. For off site pets, we do request an approved application before scheduling a meeting.
To adopt after being approved, you simply pay the adoption fee and take your new family member home! You may adopt over the phone and then schedule to travel to meet your new pet. Adopting over the phone does require paying the adoption fee which is non-refundable if you change your mind about adopting.
Adoption fees vary depending on which pet you are interested in. These are often listed on the pet's profile but if not, feel free to email or call to ask.
We are available for phone calls weekdays 8a-5p and Saturdays 8a-Noon. You will reach the receptionist for Crossroads Animal Hospital which is the vet hospital who founded CARE. After working hours, we can be reached via email which is usually checked daily but may take up to 48 hours for a reply.
