Pets at Our Rescue Group:

Cities, Towns, and/or Counties We Serve:

We primarily serve Edisto Beach in Colleton County and Edisto Island, Adams Run, Meggett, Ravenel and Hollywood in Charleston County, SC.

About Our Rescue Group:

We are an approved federal 501C3 registered SC Non Profit Charity made up of a small group of volunteers who primarily help stray, abandoned and found dogs.We exist solely from donations and fund raisers. There are no paid staff members, only volunteers who do this because we love dogs. We pick up abandoned and stray dogs when notified and we accept surrenders of stray dogs that show up at people's homes or are picked up on the side of the road by locals and tourists alike. We only accept surrenders in cases of death, serious illness, and serious financial hardship. We help people rehome their pets through Petfinder.com and Adoptapet.com. When we have room we also rescue dogs in danger of euthanasia from Colleton County Animal and Environmental Control in Walterboro, SC. Our primary mission is to provide veterinary care, food, shelter and love to get our rescues healthy and socialized enough to be adopted. This includes an initial exam by our veterinarians, Dr. Ann Glover, Mobile Vet, or Dr. Brock Sauls of Southside Animal Hospital, heartworm tests, shots, medicines and medical treatment needed if financially feasible, and spaying or neutering. Volunteers pet, play and walk our rescues at least twice a day if at all possible. We like to have foster homes for our rescues whenever possible. Rescues not in foster homes are kept in a covered outdoor shelter located on Edisto Island. Rescues ready for adoption are sometimes taken for Adoption Days at Edisto True Value hardware, Tractor Supply in Ravenel, and other locations by invitation. We write monthly articles about our rescues, our organization and general pet care in the local monthly Edisto News and on our Facebook page.

Come Meet our Pets:

Because we are a small all volunteer rescue group our pets must be seen by appointment. Your first step in adopting one of our pets is to fill out an adoption application. All information on the application must be completed including phone numbers and a vet reference (an old one, or a reason why there is not one) before it will be processed. Please contact Margaret at 843-869-3869 or AnimalLoversOfEdisto@gmail.com for an adoption application, for more information, or to set up a date and time to meet these precious pet or AnimalLoversOfEdisto@gmail.com.

Our Adoption Process:

We require a minimum adoption donation of $100 to $250 depending on the dog and the amount of money we have invested in vet care. We have an application form and contact the adopter's veterinarian. Our application asks adopters to certify that they have a fenced yard or that the pet will be kept indoors and that the pet will be maintained on heartworm and flea preventative and kept up to date on annual shots. The application also asks adopters to certify that they will ask Animal Lovers for assistance in rehoming the pet in the event they cannot keep it for some reason at any time in the future.

Our Adopted Pets:

We have helped lots of pets connect with loving and caring owners. Check out our adopted pets list!

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog or puppy versus getting dogs for sale or puppies for sale from a dog breeder? When someone is breeding puppies, they are creating new dogs who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog or puppy and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale from a puppy breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog or adopt a puppy at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
