About Our
Rescue
Group:
We are a registered SC Non Profit Charity made up of a small group of volunteers who primarily help abandoned and homeless dogs on Edisto Island. We exist solely from donations and fund raisers. There are no paid staff members, only volunteers who do this because we love dogs and cats. We pick up abandoned animals when notified and we accept surrenders of abandoned animals picked up on the side of the road by locals and tourists alike. We do not accept surrenders from people who can't keep their pet for one reason or another but we will help them rehome their pet. Our primary mission is to provide veterinary care, food, shelter and love to get our rescues healthy and socialized enough to be adopted. This includes an initial exam by our veterinarians, Dr. Ann Glover, Mobile Vet, or Dr. Brock Sauls of Southside Animal Hospital, heartworm tests, shots, medicines and medical treatment needed if financially feasible, and spaying or neutering. Volunteers pet and play with our rescues at least twice a day if at all possible. We like to have foster homes for our rescues whenever possible. Rescues not in foster homes are kept in a covered outdoor shelter located at a local business, Main's Market, that is kind enough to provide us space. Rescues ready for adoption are taken for Adoption Days on Saturdays at the Edisto True Value hardware store from 10am to 3pm when a volunteer is available or to the Snow Cone Shack in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot. We write monthly articles about our rescues, our organization and general pet care in the local Edisto News. We also sponsor Rabies, Microchip and Vaccination clinics here in Edisto. We have sponsored spay/neuter clinics in conjunction with Charleston Animal Society here in Edisto and hope to secure funding at some time in the near future to sponsor at least one spay/neuter clinic each year.
Come Meet our Pets:
Our pets can be seen by appointment by calling or texting Margaret at 843-869-3869 or Nate at 803-518-3283. You can also email Margaret at martowe514@gmail.com.
Our Adoption Process:
We require a minimum adoption donation of $75 to $100 depending on the dog. We have an application form and conduct a home visit whenever possible and contact the adopter's veterinarian. Our application asks adopters to certify that they have a fenced yard or that the pet will be kept indoors and that the pet will be maintained on heartworm and flea preventative and kept up to date on annual shots. The application also asks adopters to certify that they will ask ALOE for assistance in rehoming the pet in the event they cannot keep it for some reason at any time in the future.
