Areas AnimalDefense Rescue.org serves

AnimalDefense Rescue.org [ ADR.org] saves one dog at a time from high kill shelters in CA, assuring a thorough exam and procedures at veterinary clinic in CA first.

Then through a reliable Rescue transport organization the dog (s) comes to Orcas Island, WA where the founder has property, assesses and socializes the new rescue dog with other dogs and introduces him/her to her own "pack".
All dogs that ADR.org adopts out are spayed and neutered, microchipped, bloodwork is done, and all are fully vaccinated.

What is special for ADR.org is that the founder and president does everything herself with no outside help or volunteers: organizing logistics in CA for transport from CA to WA, and providing stimulation/enrichment for the rescued dogs on the founder’s property on OI, WA, incl. assessment and socialization with other rescue dogs and own dogs hence providing a safe and healthy environment mirroring the future home conditions.

Additional adoption info

Adopters will request an application by sending an email to : ADR@animalDefenserescue.org

Each prospective owner fills out an adoption application. All applicants must live in WA (exceptions are possible), and we ask that children in your home are at least ten years old. We usually have limited information of history of our rescue dogs and are therefore very careful about placing them in households with children.
We require that everyone in the immediate family, including your current dog (if you have one) come to the appointment to meet your potential new dog. Adopting a dog is a big family decision and requires a commitment from everyone.
At the appointment, we will help you assess whether the dog is a good match for you and family or not.

Before you bring your new dog home, you must sign an Adoption agreement with Animal Defense Rescue. In addition, a $ 375$ adoption fee is requested. The adoption donation is non-refundable.
Please remember that adoption contributions barely cover our expenses and only defray the costs. Additional donations are greatly appreciated and will help us continue our life-saving work.
Step 4: Post Adoption Follow Up
Our goal is to help you enjoy life with your new dog to the fullest extent possible. If issues arise, or you just need some good advice, we are happy to do follow-up counseling by telephone or in person. We can also suggest local dog trainers.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
