Additional adoption info

Menefee’s Mutts asks a $225 adoption fee for our rescues, if we deliver them to you other than at our Sunday adoption events. This fee includes two or more puppy vaccinations, two dewormings, and spay/neuter if over 3 months. (If under 3 months, we charge a refundable deposit until the puppy is either returned for surgery with us, or proof of surgery if done locally.) We do not give Bordatella vaccines, but do, if the dog is old enough, give an anti-rabies vaccination. We do not do home checks or require a lengthy application process, just a one-page contract that includes pertinent info about the doggy and an interview. We do expect our potential parents to be responsible pet owners and provide their new addition with a safe, dry place to sleep, whether inside or outside, to exercise them and spend quality time with them each day. Our contract states our return policy. We provide full disclosure for our dogs, for any health issues we are aware of. Occasionally, we have arranged with adopters to do trial adoptions, to give them plenty of time to interact within the family setting and with other furry members of the family. It's a joy to watch potential parents interact with our babies. We watch their faces and the licks and nuzzles they give back usually tells us all we need to know.

About Menefee's Mutts

Menefee's Mutts is a multinational group who couldn't stand to see the growing number of abandoned dogs ending up homeless. Our goal is to Rescue, Rehab, and Rehome these wonderful creatures. Whatever their circumstances, we accept them, fit them in to our overcrowded homes, care for them all (some in deplorable condition, sick, dirty, terrified). Some are adult dogs surrendered for various reasons; others are puppies, brutally separated from mom's tender care; still others are street dogs who have seen much more of life than any living organism should ever have to see. We treat their wounds and other physical problems and we try our best to heal the emotional ones. They are socialized as best we are able, allowed to interact with people and other dogs and some cats - not children, however, none available. While we are usually successful at socializing most of our rescues, there are just too many to completely house-or leash-train. We will crate, or separate them for their own safety, if needed. Our goal is to teach them to sleep in the house, to get along with each other, and to generally be civilized by the time they find their forever homes. The final result of our efforts is a doggy version of gratitude because they know we love them. They really do seem to appreciate the small attentions and good food they receive while they are being rehabilitated.

Adopt a Pet is the easiest way for you to search for a new pet in North and South, CA.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
