My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Zane has a reduced adoption fee of $100 in order to help find his forever home!

Beautiful Zane is a roughly 7 year old, purebred German Shepherd Dog that spent his whole life on a chain until he was confiscated by a local shelter. As if living life confined wasn't bad enough, poor Zane ended up being heartworm positive and bares scars around his neck from an embedded heavy collar and chain. He has since been treated for his heartworm and his neck is fully healed and has spent his days with us learning how to be an indoor dog. It is amazing how quickly they catch on to that. :)

Though a bit guarded, Zane is a wonderful boy, who is anxious to learn and enjoy his remaining years. He knows his basic commands, and is living comfortably with other dogs, both large and small, and cats. Zane is not interested in playing with his foster siblings, and is not, by any means, an active dog. He coexists fine with his foster siblings, but to no avail, they have yet to be able to engage him in play. He is not the guy who will play at ALL, he is the guy who will never cause trouble and will be the quiet observer. He is also crate trained and housebroken and we suggest continuing to provide him a crate. He is quite a couch potato.

Zane's perfect home would be one who is experienced with Shepherds or other working breeds, and someone who understands that firmness and consistency are key. Zane is not going to be forced to do anything, but will do what is asked with a little encouragement. He bonds very strongly to his person and does not like being too far from them. A strong bond is the best part of a loyal dog and Zane responds well to kindness and enthusiasm , but not man-handling.

Zane is slowly learning to enjoy car rides and relax during storms, but this is a work in progress. His confidence has increased dramatically, but his forever family will need to exercise patience during his transition and know it is a work in progress. He loves the kids he has met in public, but due to how younger children like to pull and push, it would be best if he was in an adult-only home or with children 10+ who know how to be appropriate.

All MVPC dogs are heart worm tested, completely vetted, spayed/neutered, and microchipped. If you are interested in learning more about our dogs and organization, or want to join the MVPC family, please visit www.miamivalleypitcrew.com
