My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Raggedy Ann
Born August 2013 - Female Black and white Tabby Maine Coon Mix

update: Monday Jan 13th Raggedy went in for an eye evaluation. We found out that she didn't have light reflex in her damaged eye. Unfortunately her lens was damaged because of the dog bite and as a result she lost sight in that eye. Her eye doctor felt the best option was to remove the eye. This will protect her from tumors forming in that eye later in life. The good news is she has bounced back, playful and happy. She will have her stitches removed next week and will be ready for adoption. She will always need to be inside only, protected and safe."

How did such a little precious kitten endure so much at such a young age?

Raggedy Ann had a very rough start in life. In rescue we see the results of abandonment and neglect every day, but this baby was literally flung from a truck window when she was less than six weeks old! Luckily, a kind-hearted person witnessed the incident, scooped up Raggedy, and dropped her off at a vet clinic where one of our volunteers works.

In addition to being terrified, Raggedy had a bad cold and eye infection and needed much tender loving care, but within a few weeks she was adopted, and those of us who had fallen in love with her thought that her troubles were at an end. Alas, they were not. Imagine our horror when, a few weeks later, her new owner brought her back to the clinic and surrendered her after a resident dog had grabbed her by the face and head, nearly ending her life!

That she survived her ordeal with the dog is close to miraculous. She still has to see the eye doctor one more time, on January 17. We believe she has lost the vision in one eye as a result of the attack that she suffered, but she doesn’t seem to notice the impediment. (What’s a bad eye, she would probably say if she could talk, compared with being thrown from a truck AND attacked by a vicious dog?)

Despite her horrific beginnings, little Raggedy is no “scaredy cat” but a sweetheart with much love to give. Her very favorite spot is right next to you in bed or on the sofa. She will purr and purr and kiss your face to show you just how happy she is to be safe. She is playful and loves to romp with the resident cats in her foster home. Her foster mom adores her and of course wants to make sure she is loved and cherished for the rest of her life.

Raggedy would love to live with a family, possibly including gentle children, and would love to have other cats in her new home. Given her history, we will not consider a household with a dog.

Raggedy Ann is spayed, tested negative, vaccinated, and litter box perfect.

She is fostered in Davis,CA.
