My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We at Dogs Without Borders love dogs with long, nugget bodies and short, stumpy legs. So when we heard that a Corgi/Doxie/Chi, whose name was 12172013, was about to be euthanized out at rural Delano shelter, of course we jumped in the Rescue-Mobile and sped up the freeway to save him.
He now has his own name; Pumpkin. Pumpkin is a gorgeous little beast and we think he might have been a ballerina in his previous life because he stands with his feet turning out in the Third Position.
Pumpkin was captured by Animal Control running on the side of the freeway, and we think he was stray for a while. And we think he must have have suffered from some abuse because he will cringe or freeze and cower if you move too quickly near him.
However he has a lot of love to give and when he gets to know you he looks at you with total devotion. He is still working on his house-breaking skills but is nearly there. The only thing wrong with him is that he has a condition called Discoid Lupus on his nose, which means he will need vitamin E applied to his nose every day as well as sunblock. He also has some fur loss in patches on his side which have tested negative for everything common. We are working hard with several vets to understand if this is associated with the lupus, an allergy, or something else. It doesn't slow him down any that's for sure! And he snores like a train.
He walks nicely on the leash (well, actually he struts) and he loves other dogs. His only issue is that he is aggressive if another dog tries to take away his bone or eat his food. We often find this to be the case with dogs that come in as strays and don't know if or when they will get another meal.
Pumpkin doesn't ask for much, but he will give you his heart and soul in return and be utterly devoted to you for the rest of his life. This guy is 2.5 years old. For an adoption application, please visit www.dogswithoutborders.org
