My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi I’m Durby, I am a very distinguished tri-colored. long-haired Dachshund that loves to snuggle with my person and would prefer a calmer household with one or two other dachshunds to play with and share my toys. I'm ~5-6 yrs old & ~12 lbs. I do love grown-ups, but children tend to make me very nervous with all of their energy, so a forever home without children is needed. Also, cats are funny creatures to me and I will bark at them & give chase when I see them, so a home without cats would be best. DREAM is asking that I go to an experienced Dachshund owner that is willing to love me unconditionally and will know how to handle anything that may come up in my life with them. I promise to love you, give you plenty of kisses and wow people with my gorgeous eyes (I have one blue and one brown). My foster Mom says I’m constant entertainment, but I’m not the kind of boy to chew on things, so I think she is very happy about that. As a matter of fact, I am a perfect gentleman. Oh & one last thing, I really don't like my kennel so I hope you don't ask me to stay in one. I would not be happy.

Durby is currently undergoing evaluation for possible IVDD. He is able to walk just fine right now, but does have some narrowing of the vertebrae in a couple of different places. We will keep you updated on his prognosis.

If you are interested in adopting Durby, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to dreamhappytails.org/adoptform.shtml. Durby 's adoption fee is $375. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Durby will go to his/her new home microchipped, neutered, heartworm tested, and up to date on vaccinations. Most dogs' veterinary expenses are greater than our adoption fees.

DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group, and we focus on the Atlanta, North Georgia and Savannah area. Because we are all volunteers, we can consider applications only within an hour of these areas. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back.
