My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adoption pending! Meet Babine! She is a healthy, housetrained, 3 year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback mix, who is spayed and up to date on all shots.
Babine is an extremely active dog, who would love a rural setting with a large yard. She loves to play chase, tug on ropes, and braided rope chews. She loves to be outside, but prefers to be with her people.
She is very sweet, loving and loyal to her family and their young daughter, but her loyalty causes her to be protective and she will react to the sight of strange people and dogs.
While on walks, in her yard, or in the car, she will bark at strange dogs and people, and she pulls and lunges on walks to try to get to the other dog. Her current family has not introduced her to dogs that she is reactive towards, because her behaviour indicates it probably would not go well.
Although Babine is reactive towards other dogs that she can't get to, she is good with her sister dog, and they love to play together. Babine likes to play rough, so if she were to live with another dog, it should ideally be a dog that won't get aggressively defensive.
Babine's current sister dog (a jack russell mix) bites at her legs, hangs from her cheeks and literally jumps on top of Babine and Babine doesn't react. When she wants a break, Babine will growl at her (like saying "that's enough"). They run and chase each other constantly, snarling/snapping, barking and jumping on top of each other, but when you watch them you see that they are only playing. She would like another playmate that can play with her like this. Babine has never bitten a dog, cat or person. Babine has a cat at her current home and is fine with the cat.
Babine is calm and well behaved indoors, and has been excellent towards the child in the family. She has no aggression around her food or treats.
She did previously show some guarding with rawhide bones around her dog sister, but that seems to have passed.
When people come to the house, she initially barks like mad, but will then will jump up excitedly and lick them when they come to the house. (She's all bark, no bite!)
Babine has a few challenges but she also has some great qualities too!
She is extremely loving, and loves to cuddle with you like a lap dog on any chair or couch. She always wants to be with you, following you from room to room. She is very gentle with kids, and never jumps on them or knocks them over. She is as energetic and outgoing as a puppy and loves playing.
She is fully trained to sit, stay, lay down and give a paw, and she responds in English and French, sometimes better in French (since she originally came from a shelter in Montreal.)
She always tells you when she needs to go outside, and never has accidents in the house. She doesn't beg at the table, and lays quietly on the floor or her pillow. You can take food from her without issue, and doesn't snap at food or treats.
She won't leave the backyard even if the gate is left open.
Babine is not violent, she is loyal and instinctually very protective of her family, and is a great friend.
Unfortunately, her reactive behaviour is just too much for her family to handle in their busy neighbourhood. Her ideal family would live in a more rural setting with fewer strange people and pets around to upset her. Her ideal family would be able to provide her with exercise and the training she needs to reach her full potential and overcome her reactive tendencies.
