My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Missy is a healthy, sweet, shy and loving little beagle girl that seems to have had a hard life before being rescued by BRSM in August of 2013. She was found as a stray in southern VA suffering from heart worm, hypothyroidism and bad teeth. These health problems usually indicate that no one has taken the time to properly care for her since all three are either preventable or treatable. Although she was neglected by humans, she does not hold a grudge, and is very happy to receive any attention and proper care from her foster family. It has been a long hard road to get her healthy, but she is strong and took each step of the treatment plan without complaint. We have worked out the medication dosage for her thyroid, the heart worm treatment is complete and her teeth are clean. She came through the rough stuff with flying colors!

She is shy and melts to the floor when there are loud noises or quick movements, but is not so timid that she can’t interact with other dogs or people. She does not have an aggressive bone in her body, but is not afraid to tell her canine siblings off when they try to take what is hers. She is playful at times with other non-aggressive dogs, and could live comfortably in a multi-dog household.

She absolutely loves meal time and gets so excited that her little body wiggles all over until her food is set before her. She is crate trained and in fact would spend most of her time in her crate if she had her way. We must encourage her to stay out and socialize. When out of her crate she loves to be petted and often rolls on her back so she can get the coveted belly rub. She walks well on a leash, knows she should go outside to potty (but still has an accident now and then), comes when called (for a treat) and sits for a treat. She does not bark unless provoked by her siblings trying to steal her food and does not dig in the yard. She usually runs outside to go to the bathroom and then returns to her crate unless the sun is out. Little Missy Halifax likes to sun bathe. Even if the temps are on the chilly side she will sit in the sun soaking up the rays.

She is not a demanding girl and accepts the love and care she receives, but I believe she would love to snuggle on the sofa with her new parents or even maybe keep them warm in their bed. She has been through so much up until now that I think she deserves a warm home with a loving family. She will need folks that can help her get a little more exercise and lose a little weight. If you think you might have the time and love to help little Missy, please stop by to meet her.
