My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cara is the sweetest little lady who still has a lot of pep for her age - the perfect companion. Plus, check out those adorable ears! She's an enthusiastic snuggler, an experienced napper, and a foodie. Cara loves nothing better than a big pile of blankets to burrow in and a spot in the sunshine - unless it's a full food bowl! Her sight and hearing are not what they used to be, but that doesn't keep her from exploring. Even though anesthesia was a risk, we had our vets give Cara a dental because she had a couple of teeth that were so bad they were affecting her comfort and health. Because of her age (which we guess to be about 15), we will not be spaying her or removing mammary gland tumors. She also has a cardiac tumor which is beginning to press on her trachea but surgery is not an option. This little lady is considered to be a hospice case who just needs a loving home to spend the last few months of her life. If you can not adopt Miss Cara, please consider sponsoring her by donating to DREAM for her care.

If you are interested in adopting Cara, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to dreamhappytails.org/adoptform.shtml. Cara 's adoption fee is $250. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Cara will go to her new home microchipped, altered, heartworm tested, and up to date on vaccinations. Most dogs' veterinary expenses are greater than our adoption fees.

DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group, and we focus on the Atlanta, North Georgia and Savannah area. Because we are all volunteers, we can consider applications only within an hour of these areas. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back.
