My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there- my name is Iris! I just left my former life as a stray who ended up in a shelter to come to Broken Tail Rescue, and I'm excited to find a family of my own! I am a healthy, up to date Yorkie girl, estimated to be around 2 years old. I am a happy girl who wants nothing more than to be with my people. I am also full of the spunk and sass that Terrier people know and love! As you may have noticed, I only have 1 eye. When I was found by animal control, my right eye was infected and had to be removed, but my left eye works just fine so don't let that stop you from meeting me!

I am very new to Broken Tail, so please check back for updates as my foster Mom learns more about me. So far, I'm very a very sweet girl who loves car rides, tennis balls, walks, and cuddles. When my people aren't paying attention to me, I do this cute thing where I stand on my hind legs and smile, smile, smile until you look (it works every time!) I've been good with the resident dog, and all other dogs that I've met at the park. I have only seen an outdoor cat once, and didn't seem to notice or mind him at all. Small children might be too much for me, so please talk to my foster Mom about that!

I am housetrained, but take a few days to adapt to a bathroom schedule in a new home, so please be patient with me! I'm not crazy about the crate, but will hang out in there with the door open. My foster Mom puts up a gate in the kitchen when she leaves for work, and I like that set up much better! I like treats and take them gently, and have shown no food aggression with dogs or people. I am not always the most polite girl when I first meet people, but I am learning to let my guard down with time. The best approach is to ignore me at first so I can check you out, after this, you're in! I warmed up to my foster Mom in less than a minute, and will probably do the same with you.

NOTE: Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
