My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adopted 4/26/14!!!!!!

4/9/14 Update from Foster Mom: The Boys just arrived at their foster home, where they will stay as they complete their heartworm treatment. The first thing their Foster Mom said was, "Wow, what tall and handsome boys they are!!" They love attention so much, and we have observed that Scoop really depends on his brother Horace, always needing to know where he is. Horace takes care of his brother, even allowing Scoop to eat his food. Makes us wonder why Scoop is a perfect weight, while Horace could lose a few!! They are a dream in the car, happy to watch out the window or take a nap. They walk nicely on lead and do not pull. Nor do they counter surf, and they are house trained. Horace is the more "talkative" of the two, and will make friendly noises for attention. He is also proficient at giving "the golden paw," raising it toward you gently for attention. The Boys slept quietly through their first night at their Foster's. We will be adding a video and more pictures of these charming boys within the next few days. If you love dogs and have room for two, don't overlook Horace and Scoop. They truly are treasures!

3/27/14 Update: What treasures these boys are! They are both calm and so affectionate. They get along just great with the cats at the vet clinic, as well as every dog they have met there. The vet's young son is a frequent visitor, and they adore him. Any kids in their future life would make them extremely happy. We thought we needed new pictures of Horace because his eyes looked "squinty" in his pictures. But we were told, "Oh, no, his smile is so big his eyes squint up!!" Horace is not a big fan of retrieving or water -- not true to his breed! However, his love of attention and petting certainly are. Scoop is the retriever and water dog and also likes his share of loving. Scoop is about 75 lbs. and a perfect weight, while Horace is about 80 lbs and could stand to lose just a few.

Horace & Scoop's Story: Take a look at this beautiful, happy, well-adjusted and healthy pair of bonded brothers! AKC registered GR Horace and his Lab Brother Scoop (no, we did not name them!) have been together since meeting as pups 8 years ago. They lived happily as inside dogs, nicely trained, enjoying leash walks and rides in the car. Horace loved his games of fetch, while Scoop enjoyed playing with his toys. Scoop demonstrated a love of water by jumping in puddles, although he never visited a place for actual swimming. Both boys always got along fine with other dogs and kids, but never met a cat. They were good, sweet dogs enjoying life. Then their parents divorced and they stayed with their Dad. Recently Dad has had problems and now Horace and Scoop need a forever family. We promised to keep them together. They are healthy boys ready to move on to a new life together.

Don't wait to apply for these handsome, affectionate boys. At 8 years old they have a perfect energy level and will brighten your days. They deserve a loving home, and perhaps even a chance to swim together. Please consider them, and make their world a wonderful place to be. About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.
