My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adopted 4/5/14!!!

Update 3/22/14: Hendrix is doing so well! His Foster Mom says he is playful and affectionate. He loves to play with the resident dogs and they really like him, too! He loves his leashed walks and is very well behaved on lead. He sits right down for you when you ask him to. He is a snuggle bug, loving to sit on the couch with you for hugs and he is the perfect size for that….or, he will be as he continues to lose his extra pounds! Hendrix is a calm dog and he loves human companionship. He will bark to alert you if he hears something, but not excessively. His Foster Mom takes him out fairly often and there have been no accidents in the house. Hendrix is such an easy boy to have in your home. We think he would do well in a family with other dogs, or as an only dog if his humans are around more often than not. Don't miss out on this cutie pie!

My Story: Beautiful boy Hendrix is a return to Sunshine. His owner of the past four years slipped into dementia, and sweet little Hendrix slowly stopped receiving the care he deserved. As he returns to Sunshine, he is overweight and has been shaved. He is wondering what has happened to him -- but soon he will again be the beautiful, glossy-coated, thinner dog he once was. He appears to be an Australian Shepherd & Flat Coated Retriever mix. Check out this handsome boy in his video! You can see that he is already growing back his gorgeous silky-soft coat. And you can see how he adores hopping up to snuggle on his human's lap!

Eight-year-old Hendrix likes other dogs and is curious about cats, but doesn't hurt them. Currently weighing in at a hefty 72 lbs., we expect he will quickly lose this excess weight with regular exercise and a high-quality, monitored diet. He enjoys leash walks and is well-behaved on a leash. He meets new people nicely and is a very smart boy! He likes toys but had not had anyone to play with him for a long time.

Hendrix is all set with his vaccinations, is heartworm negative, and is neutered. He has been neglected for a long time and needs a family to walk him, play with him, and love him again.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog - make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
