Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Tyler, a Boston Terrier Mix, is an active 3 year old weighing in at about 18 pounds. He is leash trained, gets along with other dogs, and is not food aggressive. He is crate trained and will get in his crate when told to at night and is then quiet until morning. He is mostly house trained but does not like going out in the rain and needs to be ushered out. He enjoys watching TV with his foster Dad at night and will either sit beside him or on his lap. He likes getting petted. He trusts his foster and is a good dog there.
All of this sounds good but Tyler is a very special needs dog. He is scared of new people and can even get so scared that he looses bowl control if a stranger tries to catch him or pick him up. We are working on this and he is better but can still get scared easily. Tyler would do best in a home with another dog and a fenced yard.. He is not a social dog and will retreat when there is company.
He has been adopted before and was returned. He was best with the wife and would let her walk him but would not allow the husband to take him out. He seemed to enjoy playing at a distance but did not want to be petted or picked up. As you can tell this dog has some very real fear issues. We would love to know what happened to Tyler in the past. Since he is good at his foster home we know there is a right match out there somewhere for him.
For obvious reasons, Tyler does not show well and will not bond instantly, he spend most of his time looking for his foster. As part of his socialization training we do take him to PetSmart at Lady Lake each Saturday to give our volunteers time to work with him as well as to get him more comfortable in crowds. It is a slow process but we do see improvement.
If a placement does not work Max’s Pet Connection normally allows 7 days for the dog to be returned and get all but $25 of the adoption fee back. In this case since it takes Tyler longer to adjust we would allow two months. That would give you two months to work with Tyler and know if yours would be the right home for him. If you are the person to gain his trust you will have a very loyal life companion.
