My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Good day. Let me introduce myself. I am the BARON of Rover Rescue. Those closest to me just call me BARON. I am an aristocrat who has lost my way in society. I had a position of power and influence when I was part of an estate in Southern Indiana. Due to implausible circumstances, I lost my home and became an owner surrender in a high kill animal shelter. Fortunately, Rover Rescue heard about my noble behavior and brought me to Northern Illinois. I am hoping to make a new life for myself with the help of my fine foster family. Let me tell you about my bloodline. I am a 2 year old Black Labrador Retriever Mix. I have a sleek black coat with a white chest. I did not go without any meals in the past, as I weigh a hefty 68 pounds. The kind gentleman called a vet said that I would feel a lot better if I shed 8-10 pounds. Now that I am eating a healthy diet and getting a lot of exercise, I hope to be lighter soon. My foster family seems to think that I was treated with proper respect in the past. I was even micro-chipped prior to being imprisoned at the shelter. I am feeling a little more confident in my temporary home each day. I have been very laid back, enjoying time on the couch, and getting along well with my foster parents and teenage human siblings. I was very shy of the other two canines living at my foster home. When we first met, I would hide behind my foster mom’s legs and did not want to interact just like a shy child. I soon realized that they were friends and it was safe to play and have fun. I went on my first trip to the local dog park and I was timid at the start. Once I felt comfortable, I loved running and playing with the other dogs or would wander off by myself to smell all the good scents. My previous owner stated I was food aggressive with other dogs. At the shelter, the Animal Control Officer tested me with his own female dog. I passed with flying colors, even giving up the food bowl to her. I know how to sit and will take treats very nicely from you. I am calm in the car and do not even demand to ride shotgun. I am extremely quiet in my crate and will lounge in it even when the door is open. I am housetrained and will whine when I need to go outside. I sleep in the master bedroom on a dog bed or on the foot of the bed. UPDATE: In just a little over a week, Baron has made great strides in his foster home. He was always a good dog, but now we can honestly say he is a GREAT one! He is a slimmer, more energetic boy now that he has shed a few pounds. He still has a few more to lose. He loves to work for his treats by catching them in mid-air. His favorite treat is just 3 calories. He is no longer nervous eating around the other dogs in the house. He now enjoys meal time with his bowl right next to the other dogs and their bowls. His true personality is coming out as he now loves to play. He scared his playmates at first as he is very vocal when he plays tug until they realized that it was all in fun. He would make a great addition for just about any family. If you are looking to add a proper gentleman to your household, please call Darla at 630-406-9405 and ask for BARON. The adoption fee for BARON is $200. http://youtu.be/NjFaLZZbNJg
