My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Moxie is a very lucky dog... he was rescued from a very high-kill shelter in Oklahoma because of his great temperament. The rescuer from OKC knew she could find him a great and loving home. This purebred Shih Tzu is just about 2 years old and weighs about 12 lbs of love and devotion. Moxie is just naturally an easygoing guy who is an equal opportunity lover! He's excited to meet kids of all ages as well as other dogs...Moxie loves to play and have fun with everyone. He's such a pleasant guy to be out and about with - he's almost perfect on a leash and you know that he's going to be engaging and very friendly with every human and dog he runs into. This is awesome in that it's a stress-free experience to bring Moxie along. He's wonderful in the car (is a non-vocal pup which is great!) and won't destroy any personal items in the home or car - having a chew toy is great for keeping Moxie very busy. He has a calm disposition...no rowdiness for this pup. His initial training has given him a self-confidence and he completely understands that great behavior gets him hugs, kisses and treats! Another way that Moxie derives his self-esteem are the constant, "Isn't he adorable" or "Cutest Shih Tzu ever" statements - Moxie can't help but feel great that people love him for his adorable looks (and the cutest snaggletooth ever)... but also for his great smile and a very positive attitude. We picture Moxie in an adult-only home where he can be a primary companion to his dog-mom or dad. It's not that Moxie doesn't love kids of every age...he definitely does. But we feel that Moxie feels safer and has better behavior when active kids with loud voices don't live in his home. He does need some work on his housetraining that we feel can be accomplished easily (he was perfectly housetrained for months in his all-adult foster home in Denver, but needs to be reminded of his skills once he's back in a home with order). Moxie has been living with 2 young boys and their associated chaos...attention to training and schedule were always non-existent. Positive reinforcement group training classes would be highly recommended to remind Moxie of the house skills that came so naturally to him. This would also serve in cementing a strong bond and respect for his family. Moxie would be capable both size and behavior-wise to accompany his family virtually anywhere... Moxie also loves long and leisurely walks and quiet time spent outside. He loves to watch the outdoor activity and lying in the warm sun. It's all about spending quality time with his people and doggy friends.. He can include other dogs in his lifestyle...playing and fun truly speak to this engaging guy. Moxie is a non-shedder and will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his gorgeous coat healthy and matt-free.

Moxie is being fostered in Boulder, CO. Applications are being accepted, and Meet and Greets being set up for this exceptional and very sweet companion.
