Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hello World,
My name is Riley and I’m a very handsome and deserving bichon boy of four. I am so darling that I was used as a stud in something called a puppy mill. I didn’t know what that was but they kept telling everyone what a perfect little purebred Bichon I was. The great news is that I am now a Bichon FurKid – and I get to live the rest of my life as a pet – and a member of a family!
My foster mom says I am as cute as a bug, intelligent, a bit on the serious side and a little gentleman; she says my coat is perfect, that I love other bichons and that my bichon doggy foster brothers think I’m pretty nice. While I was shy at first, I adjusted pretty quickly – and I got my bichon brothers to run and chase me. Little did they know that I can hop, skip and jump when I run. They have to try hard really hard to keep up with me. All the time that I am playing with them Mom says I am smiling.
My biggest challenge has been that I haven’t had much of an opportunity, before now, to form a relationship with a human. Dad says I am adorable, very well trained and worth every ounce of effort to help me learn what a family is all about. He also says that he and Mom know that I am finally learning the meaning of the word ‘Joy.’ In the past two weeks I have learned how to wag my tail, give big Bichon grins and have fun. Mom says I probably haven’t had much fun in my life or been encouraged to be silly and playful – but she, Dad and my doggy brothers are teaching me about fun… and I like it!
I like my chew bones, my time at the doggy park, rides in the car, long walks (I’m perfect on a leash!) and lots of naps in my bed. (Mom says that I’m a sleepy head and that I like to be covered with my little blanket and will curl up and sigh contentedly, then go to sleep!)
I am very friendly with other Bichons and small dogs, but big dogs do scare me. I’m good with adults and children but it takes me a little while to warm up as I’m shy. I still have to be coaxed into coming close to people, but if you are patient I will come and sit near you – then you can pick me up and take me into your lap. Once I’m there well.. that’s a different story! I love to be petted and scratched and there’s this thing called a belly rub. That makes me go all goofy inside!
I am looking for someone who will let me be their best friend and I will be a wonderful lifetime companion. Mom says I am very smart, quiet, and once I learn to trust, very loving. I dream of being a part of a family, in a home with another bichon or small dog. If you are patient, loving and looking for a forever buddy waiting to be held, petted and loved, please complete an application at www.bichonfurkids.org – as I am waiting to meet you.
