My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello beagle friends! My name is Ze and I am an 8 yr. old, 35 lb. beagle boy that finally arrived at Penny Angels Beagle Rescue with the help of many dedicated people! Let me share with you the story of my journey! Last year I ended up in a shelter down in South Carolina. Some people told me that my owner surrendered me to the shelter, but I don’t even remember that now. Why would someone want to get rid of me, let alone surrender me to a shelter? It just doesn’t make sense to me. Anyway, I sat in a kennel in the shelter for a period of time, watching people come and go. Just about every day was the same for me and after a while, all the days blended together. If I didn’t get out of there soon, I don’t know what would’ve happened to me. I don’t think I want to know. One day my luck finally changed when a nice man showed up at the shelter looking for a particular dog to foster. He wasn’t even thinking about me, but the shelter people knew that I was a good boy and my days were numbered, so they convinced him to foster me. Without his help, I don’t think that I would’ve made it out of the shelter alive. I was told that this man was now my foster dad and that his home was just a temporary place for me until I found my new home. I didn’t mind the fact that it was temporary; I was just happy to be out of the shelter and in a good home! My foster dad loved me and took good care of me while I was with him! He didn’t have an enclosed yard so he walked me and my new doggie family members every day. I walked well on a leash and really enjoyed our walks together! Of course, there were times during my daily strolls when I would see a strange dog or cat and my dad would hold me back as I went into ‘full beagle’ bark mode, with my tail standing straight up and my hair raised up on my back. Ahh… those were good times! I was a very good boy in my foster home and made sure that I only went to the bathroom outside. My foster dad said that I was very loyal and followed him everywhere with my tail wagging! He also said that I was a good-natured boy that was great around people & other dogs! I enjoyed being spoiled by him!

I spent 8 happy months in my foster home and I can’t really complain about it because so many other dogs never get a second chance. Deep down, though, I kept wondering when I would find my forever home. I thought that everyone had forgotten about me, but it turns out that many animal-friendly people were working behind the scenes to find me a home. In fact, my information was shared with various animal organizations on Facebook over 300 times since Oct. 2013 but nobody had room for me in their Rescue, or maybe nobody wanted me....until Penny Angels Beagle Rescue came along and agreed to take me! Even though I did not yet have my forever home, I knew that Penny Angles would work hard to find one for me. I didn’t even have to worry about how I would find my way up to them because I soon found out that I was scheduled to fly on a plane to NJ with pilot, Scott, from Pilots N Paws. Wow, my first plane ride… what a treat!!

It was sad to say goodbye to my foster dad and his ‘doggie pack’ after having spent so much time with them, but I knew that I had to go…this might be my only shot. I was carefully loaded into a crate and placed on the plane with a bunch of other lucky beagles that were bound for PABR and various other Rescues. You could see the uncertainty and excitement in all our eyes because we just didn’t know what to expect. As it turns out, we were in good hands with Scott!! I arrived safely in NJ on 6-24-14, and now my journey continues; from a home where I was unwanted, to a shelter where my days were numbered, to a foster home where I was loved, and then on a plane ride that took me to Penny Angels… all of it was worth it to get me to this point in time and to get me closer to finding my forever home. People often say that life is about the journey and not the destination. I happen to believe that both things are important; I have enjoyed my journey so far, but I am definitely looking forward to reaching my destination when I finally find that special place that I can call ‘home’!
