My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hershel is such a wonderful dog that it’s difficult to even start to describe him. He is a 12 year old male who does not seem to know his age. When he goes for his walks (he likes two per day) his ears are perked up and his tail is waving like a flag. He likes to take a very brisk walk, no fooling around. He is in excellent physical condition and outpaces much younger dogs. He likes his Shih Tzu foster brother and sister and gets along well with them. He loves sitting and cuddling in your lap and he will look at you with his puppy dog eyes to tell you that he thinks you are special. Hershel is content to lay and sleep in his bed during the day. He has a very calm demeanor, doesn’t bark, and takes everything in stride. When he is tired at night, he tells you he wants to go to bed by pacing the floor. He understands when he is asked if he wants to go to bed, and he is happy when his bed is put beside his foster mother’s bed. He willingly jumps into his bed and sleeps quietly until everyone gets up in the morning. Hershel LOVES kids. He really wanted to join a group of girls playing soccer, and when a small boy came and sat down, Hershel went to him and laid down and rolled over so he could get a tummy rub from the boy. He would do well in a home with older, active adults who can take him on brisk walks every day and will include him in their activities. He is a great passenger in the car and would be a wonderful companion wherever you go. A home with older respectful children would be fine, or a home that is occasionally visited by grandchildren who understand how to gently interact with a small dog.

Hershel is in excellent health, neutered, up to date on vaccinations is microchipped and is scheduled for a dental cleaning. His adoption fee is $120.00 plus sales tax. His foster parents would like to adopt Hershel to a family within a reasonable distance from the Twin Cities, but will go farther if the right family wants to adopt him. They also encourage his new family to attend the rescue reunion held in June every year.

Before contacting Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota regarding any dog, please thoroughly read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html first to help you understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. To meet Hershel and other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota, please visit with us from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Minnetonka Petco near Ridgedale the last Saturday of every month.
