My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi People,

My name is Wilson and I’m about a two year old sweetheart. I’m a Bichon Havanese, even though the shelter staff tried to groom me as something else, and I’m a very sweet and mellow little guy. If you don’t know much about Bichon Havanese, let me tell you just a little:

“The Bichon Havanese belongs to the family of dogs called Bichons. The French word Bichon Frise means "fleecy dog" or "curly lap dog". "Bichon" refers to the bearded appearance of the breed, as the word "barbichon" means little beard, the word "Frise" means curly. The Bichon Havanese originated in Cuba from an earlier breed known as the Havanese Silk Dog - a now extinct breed. They adorned and enlivened the homes of aristocratic Cubans during the 18th & 19th centuries. Breeding the Havanese in the USA only started in the 1970s. Like the Bichon Frise, the Bichon Havanese are natural companions: gentle and responsive. They become very attached to their human families and are excellent with children. They are very affectionate and playful, have a high degree of intelligence, are cheerful, sociable and easy to train.”

My foster Mom says I’m a cuddler, good with other dogs and children. She says I’m gentle, sweet, mellow and a bit on the quiet side. She says I can also be very playful -- and that there is no doubt that I am VERY smart! I learned how to use the doggy door in seconds and am pretty much housebroken. I already know how to figure things out – and like to get approval for my newfound skills – in other words, I want to please!

Dad says I am a good listener and a great companion! I like to be where he is but I am not intrusive. Dad says that I like to go on short walks and long car rides, don’t bark or jump on people and like to be petted. Loud noises scare me and I don’t like to be crated as that reminds me of being in the shelter – but I’m so good that you don’t have to worry about me in the house… just around very noisy places.

Mom says I do everything well. She says I could be happy in a home where I would be the only dog---with a family that is home a lot -or I can be with other dogs. I am just a happy, mellow little creature who never complains. I have a loving heart, a desire to please and a very sweet, mellow kind of energy.

If I sound like the kind of fur kid that you are looking for, please fill out an application at www.bichonfurkids.org/Applications as I am waiting to meet you.

Thanks a lot!
