My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I'm Maddie! I'm a loving 45lb, 3.5 year old Whippet/Pitbull mix. Not to brag, but I am extremely smart. I am house-trained, crate-trained, and know many commands;   sit, down, paw, wait.  I'm willing to learn more too if you have a treat, a toy, or some love- I'm not picky.  I also love walks and can go for miles and miles.  I do not  pull on my leash because I want to be right next to you the whole time, not in front.  What kind of walk would it be if I'm not even next to you?!  This makes me a great running partner! I sometimes get a little too excited if I see something cool, but with a little reminding I'm right back at your side.

I used to live with dogs and loved it!  Having a dog friend to run around with is the best. I live with humans and cats now, which is pretty great too because I only have to share my cuddle time and belly rubs with my cat buddy.

I'm wary of strangers (shouldn’t we all be?) and may growl at them, but if I'm introduced slowly and properly, I'll be their best friend! Sometimes I get spooked by things I can’t explain so I should be with an adopter who knows how to watch for my behavior changes and redirect my attentions. Formal training would really benefit me and it would also help develop my bond with my new family! Ideally, a quiet home with no kids would be best for me!

I love to play and really need to be kept stimulated since I'm very intelligent. My favorite games are tug of war, fetch, and keep away.  I get pretty into it, but once my foster parents says 'drop it' I know it's time to let go.  I get really excited about play time, so much so that my whole body wags and my tail whips around really fast.  It could definitely knock down a small child so adults are best for me to play with. I would really love to learn more games and do more training so I'm kept stimulated and not bored.

Moving is a hassle, so I'd really love a home to grow up in.  Preferably a place where we can be really active and learn new things together!

Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
