My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Are you looking for a fun-time guy? someone to warm your lap on cold nights? how about a best buddy to walk with you around the block, but who does not require excessive amounts of exercise? Someone to entertain you with his masterful techniques of taking the covers off tennis balls? Want to know when someone's coming, an intruder or friend? An incredibly smart and creative problem solver? Enjoy the comedic antics of a friend with a devilish side? Then look no farther! Mickey's your guy!

Mickey is a 9-10 year old jack russell or jack russell mix. Do not be fooled by his age. Mickey is agile and strong. He does puppy zoomies around his fenced yard and loves to play the occasional game of chase. That said, don’t be fooled by his good looks either. He’s not just a pretty face. He’s got brains and he uses ‘em! Mickey doesn’t want to walk a 10 mile hike or even a 2 mile walk. He likes a mile, maybe a little less, then he’ll promptly sit down and let you know he’d like a little rest before make the trek back home. Mickey loves toys and by loves them, we mean, he would like to kill them all. No toy should survive. No toy should be left to squeak about terrorizing the neighborhood. They all should be desqueaked immediately! He does love a new tennis ball now and again because his favorite thing in the whole world is to take fuzzy coating off of brand new tennis balls. He does enjoy keeping his mouth exercised and strong by chewing on his nylabones and elk antlers and as long as these things are around, he hasn’t been interested in chewing anything that “shouldn’t” be chewed.

Mickey is housetrained and if you forget to let him out, don’t worry… he will sing you the song of his people to remind you. It kind of goes like this: “woo woo wooooo WOOOOOOOOOOOO ruff ruff ruff WOOOOOOOOO” very poetic stuff. Mickey is also crate trained and is crated during the day when his foster parents are at work for up to 4-5 hours. He is not crated at night and sleeps in the living room on a chair or a dog bed. He would love to sleep in bed with his humans though.

Mr. Smartypants also knows how to tell time so no need to worry about forgetting your breakfast or dinner. Being the ever-thoughtful little guy he is, he wouldn’t want absent-minded you to faint or get dizzy from low-sugar! Mickey loves food. Did we mention this? He loves it. He eats his dry dog food with a little water and is a happy camper till the next meal, except the times that you choose to give him special treats by leaving this out on a low counter or leave the “step stools” pushed out from the table. Then, of course, he will help himself.

Mickey loves to play with other dogs too. He enjoys wrestling and chasing and grabbing the ears or maybe the ankles of a taller friend. He’s happy to share his nest with another dog too as long as they are friendly and nice to be around. He’s not sure about cats and has given chase to the resident cat in his foster home, but isn’t over the top about his quest to find the hiding kitty nor is he pushy about getting through the door to the area of the house where the kitty lives.

Mickey is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. He has no known health issues, but does have occasional itchy skin and is on a grain free diet. He also loves carrots, bananas, apples, ice cubes, broccoli, sweet potatoes, baked potatoes, and any kind of meat or cheese, of course. You just have to be a little careful handing them to him because in his quest to get the treat he might take a nip at a finger or two. For this reason, we don’t recommend Mickey go to a home with very small children. Mickey is currently living with a mild-mannered 7 year old human girl and gets along with her great. He loves all children he meets, in fact, but because of his grabbiness over food we don’t recommend toddlers or highly animated children who don’t know how to properly interact with a dog.

We highly recommend his new home sign up for positive reinforcement training classes to help them learn how Mickey learns.
