My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hazel is just as sweet and gentle as can be. She was dumped at the shelter in Houston, TX where they were going to put her to sleep because the shelter was so overcrowded. Farfel's Rescue spoke up for her because this sweet little girl was too young and had too much life ahead of her. When Hazel first showed up to Farfel's Rescue, she was paralyzed with fear, but with the love and dedication of her foster parents, she has become a happy-go-lucky puppy just like she is supposed to be. Hazel is 2 years old and weighs 10 lbs. She is been in our foster system for about two weeks now and we have learned so much about her! Hazel's foster describes her better than anyone else, so here is what she said:

Hazel is a curious, playful, bright pup. She is looking for a forever home with a family that will take her outside to play and later cuddle with her on the couch. She is a quick learner, eager to expand raport with her humans and interact in any way she can. Her playful nature is most evident when with other animals, whom she loves to run around with. When Hazel first came to us as a new foster pup, she spent most of her time in her crate and was very unsure on how to act around humans. Through love and patience, she flourished and has turned into quite the snuggle bug. While she is fully crate trained, she would much prefer cuddle in bed with you. No matter what you are doing, she loves to be by your side, from playing games with a group of friends to lounging on the couch and reading a book.
Hazel's favorite place in the world is outside on a sunny day. She yard trained quickly, meaning that even without a fence or leash, she will stay in the yard and has never once run off. While sunbathing has all of its appeals, she also loves to run around and is attempting to learn to play fetch (though she cannot understand why on earth, after she has brought it back once, we would throw it again :D). Less fond of loud noises and chaos, Hazel would much rather have a quiet toy to chew on or a soft blanket to snuggle with. She does, on occasion, go for clothes left unattended on the ground, but quickly drops it with a gentle reminder that it does not belong to her. If she were to invite any chaos into her life, it would be in the form of other animals. She positively adores any animal that is willing to run around with her, ranging from rats to other dogs. She is still learning how to play with humans, but other four-legged creatures are a real treat for her. Finally, Hazel is just eager to learn. It took only one gentle reminder and she was potty trained, she mastered "come" in under 45 minutes, and was fully yard trained in under an hour. A smart pup, she needs someone who will take the time needed to teach her new tricks and give her more challenges, balanced with love, gentleness, and lots of cuddles.

It is Hazel's sweet love affair with life and all the hardships that she's suffered along the way that motivates us to put Hazel through Heartworm treatments..her precious life deserves to be saved! Hazel has tested low HW+ and Farfel's (with the help of Rescued Pets Movement of Houston and Dr G in Denver) has volunteered to save this very special dog's life. The heart worm treatment process involves a couple shots followed by a short period of mellow time for the dog. We have found this protocol to be very successful and the dogs go on to live long, happy lives. We are seeking an adopter to lovingly care for Hazel as she becomes Heartworm negative. It's quite an easy rehab process as it only entails quiet time with soft words and belly rubs. Farfel's will pay the vet bills and provide premium food and treats for this special pup as she grows healthily heartworm-free.
