My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

GRACE is a sweetheart – a 1-year-old Fox Terrier mix, and weighs about 28 lbs. She is housebroken and crate trained. Grace came up to Rover Rescue along with her 2-year-old Mom, "Athena" who has already been adopted. The two girls started off in a Southern Indiana kill shelter, then entered a local women's prison foster program, where they were each fostered by prison inmates and lived with them full time! They had a wonderful experience there, a lot of one-on-one training and love and care - much better than being behind bars at the shelter.
According to the Westminster Kennel Club, the Fox Terrier originated in 19th century England, and were bred to “bolt” the fox out of its den. Average weight is 20 lbs. and they are fun-loving, lively, intelligent, but independent. They excel as small game hunters as well as family pets. The smooth coated variety (versus the wire-haired) features an easy-to-care coat and stylish appearance, making them both a good show dog as well as a fun-loving companion. Fox Terriers can be successfully trained to compete in dog show agility trials and obedience
Gracie is very friendly to all people loves children, and is very gentle - but she's also one of those "wiggle-butt" dogs who has this inner sense of humor - when I talk to her in a friendly manner, or even "scolding" her but not really meaning it - there she goes - wiggling that back end - knowing I am really teasing and playing with her. She likes all dogs and is also friendly with the resident kitties here at her foster home. Gracie's favorite playmates here are a Puggle Puppy and a Mini Dachshund, but also plays outside with the larger dogs too. Since Gracie has not had any "accidents" , she is allowed free run indoors except at bedtime, when she sleeps quietly in a giant crate with lots of room for stretching out. Once she is adopted to her forever home, she may not need any crating at all, but sometimes a crate is a nice quiet place for a dog to escape to and hang out in for nap time or eating their meals. When Gracie first came here, she started collecting her favorite toys from the doggie toy bins, and stored them in her crate for later enjoyment! She also thinks it’s pretty cool to try and fool her Foster Mom by sneaking an indoor toy out to the back yard by quickly snatching one up and racing out the door when Mom opens it for her to go potty outside. One of her favorite activities is stalking one of the other dogs, they slowly close in on each other, and then boom… start chasing each other in a big circle! In the evening when it’s time to relax on the sofa, all I have to do is pat my lap and then Grace will hop right up onto my lap. Grace is also an excellent treat catcher and is very treat-motivated to learn new things - so it will be fairly easy to teach her new commands and participate in obedience training. She looks straight up into your eyes and gives you her undivided attention - which is imperative if a dog is to have any success in obedience. Gracie will make a wonderful companion and best friend for someone who has a lot of time love, and attention to give her.
Grace is spayed, up-to-date on her vaccinations, on monthly Heartworm preventative, and is micro-chipped. Her adoption fee is $200 (cash or check). If you would like more information on Grace, please contact her Foster Mom Debbie at 630-272-1109 or email at coachdebbi@aol.com.
