My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

FOSTER LOCATION: Nampa, ID

Josie is an approximately 3-year old Chihuahua/Dachshund mix, with lots of love to give. She is a very happy, friendly dog, as well as very active and inquisitive. Josie is also quite smart and relatively well behaved, she does bark in the yard; she is responsible for reporting when cats or squirrels come into her yard!

This little girl would prefer to be sitting by your side, or in your lap, but also needs a daily walk to spend down some of her energy. She does fairly well on the leash, though she does pull. In the house she is pretty responsive to being called, and being told to stay back. Out of the house, however, she can take off to celebrate her freedom and refuse to come when called. She can easily slip out an open door so needs to be watched carefully. While Josie doesn’t appear to have had much, if any, obedience training, she so likes to please her person, she should take well to learning basic commands when offered kindness and consistency. Josie would thrive is enrolled in a basic obedience class.

Josie gets very excited when her person comes back from being away, even for a short time, and jumps up. Because of this, no children under 7 in the adoptive home. She does very well with other dogs; but is not what we would call cat friendly.

Josie sleeps in her crate quietly, and is very good about using the dog door to go outside to do her business. In a home without a dog door, she will likely need scheduled potty breaks and time to get used to not being able to go out when she wants or needs. Accidents should be expected for the first little while until you get used to her and she gets used to the routine.

She loves to go in the car, but has tried to ride in the driver’s lap. The foster home has been working on stopping this, and she is learning to ride happily in the back seat.

Josie really is an outstanding little dog, who doesn’t seem to have many of the stereotypical small dog behaviors that put people off. She loves to meet new people, and will come to greet visitors to be petted. She wants to be with her person all the time, following them everywhere and getting a little frustrated when left behind. She just wants to be close and give and receive love.
