Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Sassafras: 3 yr old male champagne mink Tonkinese
This kitty is very much a boy; you can feel his male energy. He is one of the Tonkinese breeder surrendered kitties all named for spices. He is silly and often a goofball. He likes to just about stand on his head for you to show off. He is also a little jumpy so he is unsettled still from his move into rescue. Though his breeder said he was not an alpha cat in the group, he shows a little macho to us which is maybe telling us he is a bit lacking in confidence still to be in a new environment. He seems very young and a little ungrounded.
This won’t last. I haven’t had him long and he is settling in nicely. He is long-bodied and slender, probably still growing a bit, & very athletic. I would sort of consider him to be a teenager who is learning how to behave and make his way in the world.
Sass has certainly lived with other cats. He could be fine as an only cat or, after a suitable introduction, live harmoniously with other non-alpha cats. I don’t know about dogs. He would probably do fine with them and also with older children. He likes to play.
Not many people are really familiar with this lovely breed. Let me quote a description of Tonkinese cats from the Cat Fancy Assn.
“The Tonkinese personality makes this breed popular as a companion cat. Loving, social, active, playful...yet content to be a lap cat. Tonkinese are firmly convinced that humans were put on Earth to love them. Intelligent and generous with their affection, a Tonkinese will supervise all activities with curiosity.
The Tonkinese is a natural at inventing and playing games, using favorite toys to play fetch or delighting in games of tag and hide-and-seek with other pets – or even humans. Tonkinese kittens are great fun, but even the adults tend to remain playful throughout their lives. Scratching/climbing posts and a variety of toys are much appreciated by these funloving cats. A Tonkinese will quickly take over, running your home and your life! They quickly endear themselves to family and visitors, becoming your “door greeter” and entertaining guests.”
This is a super nice young boy who will be great fun for some lucky family.
Sassafras eats wet and dry food and is litterbox perfect.
