My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

There's nothing quite like the energy and silliness of youth...and then they lie their head quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm doggie breath. They're so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think of them in a high-kill shelter! Grizzley, at only 18 - 24 months old and 55 lbs, was facing the end of his life just as it was beginning. Farfel's Georgia rescuers are compassionate and loving and couldn't turn their back on this guy...they rescued Griz just in time. This sweet and engaging Labradoodle (identified by the shelter vets as a Doodle..we're never sure if there isn't Terrier in there. Whatever the mix..Grizzley is the cutest!) is starting out with great energy...the excellent results of his temperament-testing ended with a transport ticket to Colorado and a new life.
Grizzley is an incredibly beautiful guy...with the gorgeous streaks of whitest white interwoven with the shining gold running through the waves of Griz's coat...and of course there are his dark golden ears that are the cutest things ever.
Grizzley is appropriately playful and inquisitive for his young age. He would love nothing more than a ball and some friends (either people or dog) to have a great game of catch. Griz would be perfect for hiking the Colorado mountains..it will bring him the greatest joy! He's so smart...very typical of his cross. The other thing that's clear is that he's an amazing lovebug (would love to be a lap dog if it was possible). He's bright, happy and so loving...clearly having no memory of the challenge of his past life and a guardian that had to go into hospice care.
Since Griz is such a young guy, he's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show him the way. He has all the potential in the world to be an awesome family companion - he can form firm bonds with his family (as well as other dogs and humans) and learn positive socialization skills through a positive reinforcement group Obedience Classes. It does take time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you in the world with appropriate behavior. Griz also has to work on his house training skills He is old enough and so smart that we have no doubt that he will learn quickly if given a consistent message. This will involve limiting freedom in the home, taking him out very frequently and treat rewards when he's successful. We've never met a medium-sized, young dog who can't master these skills if his guardian creates proper boundaries.
We're open to Griz finding his forever home with a very active retired couple or individual with lots of energy to train and enjoy a young dog. Griz is great with children as well but we would prefer to place him in a home with older kids where his puppyish energy won't be overwhelming and they're old enough to participate in a gentle yet consistent training protocol.
Grizzley will be up to date on his vetting and has been neutered. This fulfills our commitment to adopting out healthy and well-balanced dogs. Grizzley's fixing prior to adoption is in line with our commitment to being a part of the solution to pet overpopulation.
Grizzley is a stunning combination of shedding and non-shedding breeds but has a very Benji-like coat that would indicate a minimum of shedding. We don't feel, however, that we can guarantee his suitability for an individual with severe allergy challenges.
Grizzley will be arriving on transport in Denver from Georgia in early June. Applications can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/.
