My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Gizmo, a 4 year old long-haired Chihuahua who was an owner surrender in southern Indiana. This tiny guy weighs in at only 5.2 lbs!! He and many of his housemates were turned into the shelter due to having too many pets. Luckily a volunteer at the shelter took pity on the tiny canines and agreed to foster them. Gizmo continued to have good luck when a spot opened up in a foster home with Rover Rescue in Illinois. After testing negative for heartworm, Gizmo headed north on the next transport to continue looking for his forever home.
Gizmo arrived to a busy foster home and he does fine with all the dogs, big and small. He has shown no signs of Little Man Syndrome and due to his previous living conditions, he is quite used to other dogs. A younger dog in the home constantly asks Gizmo to play. Gizmo will play occasionally but he much prefers to politely hang out with other dogs. He had never met a cat and his first introduction had him as curious as a cat! The cat patiently allowed him to smell and when the cat had enough, one swipe told Gizmo he had all the smelling he was going to get :) Gizmo has respected him and loves to lay on a dog bed near him.
Gizmo also lives with many children and those children have friends who like to come over...a lot! Gizmo is held and loved on and he just soaks it up. Due to Rover Rescue policy, he is not available to homes with children under the age of 5 years. He is no threat to children but it would be too tempting for a small child to want to pick him up and carry him causing him injury. He loves to snuggle while a person is online and will happily travel in a dog purse for when it's time to go! He wears a harness on his walks and greets everyone he meets like an old friend.
Gizmo is looking for a family that will love him forever. He is great with both men and women. He has already had the trauma of losing the only home he ever knew and he needs a home he can call his own. He has not shown signs of marking in the home nor is he a nuisance barker. He will let his family know that someone is at the door but he is easily quieted. He is not a chewer so he has earned the privilege of sleeping loose at night. He is normally found in bed with one of the children and he is not usually in a hurry to wake up in the morning :) He is left in the master bedroom while his family is away and he always found in the same spot that they left him!
Gizmo's adoption fee is $200 which includes all of his vetting including his neuter surgery. He is up to date with his vaccinations including bordetella and rabies. He is heartworm negative and on a monthly preventative for fleas and heartworm. If you are interested in learning more about Gizmo and if he would be a good match for your home, please call his foster mom Mary for a phone interview at 630-585-7927. She will have some questions for you as well as answer any questions you may have about this little guy!
