Here's what the humans have to say about me:
The very first thing that Moose the Border Collie/perhaps Australian Shephard mix? wants to make clear is that he's a love. In this photo, you're not aware of the darkest charcoal black and whitest of white that run through his gorgeous, feathery coat. It is with grooming, care and great nutrition that Moose's cotton-soft coat will show its gorgeous colors. Everything is new to Moose...his adorable little nose sniffs shyly at an outstretched hand...and then an ear to ear smile if it's a loving touch. And then before you know it, Moose wants to be next to you on the couch. He's so happy there because his human relationships are so important to him. We have to remember that Moose comes from a very tough and challenging shelter. This 10 - 12 month old, 50 lb--what a perfect size for a Colorado dog--Border Collie truly lights up when he feels like he's done a good job. Some serious hugging and kind words will send him over the moon. In this spirit of great behavior, Moose is doing well at mastering house training skills...quite an accomplishment for a rescue pup!
Moose's foster mom has the following to say about Moose:
Moose is doing great! He really enjoys (and even loves) my 2 dogs and they all have the greatest time playing in my yard. Moose can be just a bit rambunctious...but it's all with puppyish good nature. With positive guidance and patience, Moose can be diverted in another direction.
You would also expect a young Border Collie to be very crazy and have tons of energy..this isn't usually the case with Moose. He loves people and wants to make the right decisions. It's important to him to please once he gets to know you. He's very responsive..if he jumps on me, I just have to say no and he responds. He's also starting to learn commands.. in about 2 minutes - no kidding. It must be about the natural intelligence (and inherent great personalities) of these working-type dogs.
I actually think Moose would be considered fairly calm for such a young guy. He definitely loves to play but also loves to cuddle. His temperament is outstanding! I just have to walk into the room and glance at him...it's head to toe waggy tail and huge smile. He is such a sweet boy - anyone who welcomes Moose into their home is getting a gem of a dog!
MOOSE'S SUMMARY
Moose is such a people dog. He loves kids, but I feel he would be overwhelming for very young children. So 12+ would be perfect but they definitely must be very gentle and handle him kindly. We envision Moose with a very active retired couple or individual or an adventurous family with older kids who want a beautiful and sweet dog as a family member and best companion. He would be so excited to spend his days in the company of his family. Being a Border Collie mix, Moose loves physical exercise as well as mental stimulation. He would be a natural in positive reinforcement group obedience classes and agility class. He would love the challenge and is so smart and wanting to please, he would excel. Moose would also be overjoyed to hike along Colorado paths..enjoying the sunshine and time with his people. His nature is to be very joyful and in moments his silly and fun nature takes over. Moose enjoys the company of other dogs and is learning how to play appropriately.
Moose will require periodic brushing and great nutrition to keep his coat healthy and shiny. His coat is truly amazing and soft as cotton. Moose's markings are charcoal black against the whitest of whites. He is definitely the most striking-looking Border Collie we've ever seen.
Moose will be arriving on transport in Denver on 6/7/15. If interested in this very beautiful, fun and extremely devoted companion, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
